We are developing eight hair and scalp care products for a major drugstore chain.
Scope of the partnership:
Development of concepts for eight products, preliminary ingredient lists, a commercial proposal and initial samples.
Status:
The project was at the fragrance refinement stage, with new samples being prepared in response to the client’s feedback.
Confidentiality notice: Due to the NDA, the names of the retail chain and the brand have not been disclosed. Formulas, documentation, prices and all other commercial terms remain confidential.
Project at a Glance
Product concepts, preliminary ingredient lists and initial samples were prepared. The client’s evaluation indicated that the fragrance required further refinement.

The Situation
The drugstore chain wanted to expand its private label range with eight products. It identified three areas of focus: hair repair, intensive hydration and scalp care. The products were intended to form cohesive care routines.
A sample shows whether a concept works in practice. It allows the client to assess the fragrance, texture and feel during use. Their feedback helps us determine what needs to change in the next iteration.

The next sample iterations were designed to align more closely with the client’s fragrance expectations.
The Challenge
At this stage, the main challenge was aligning the fragrance with the client’s expectations. Once the first samples had been assessed, new fragrance options were required.
Canexpol Group’s Scope of Work
Canexpol Group’s scope included:
- analysing the brief and the three care directions,
- developing concepts for eight products,
- preparing preliminary ingredient lists,
- preparing the commercial proposal and initial samples,
- selecting fragrances and preparing new samples based on the client’s feedback.

How the Range Is Being Developed
The work began with the presentation of the product concepts. Preliminary ingredient lists, a commercial proposal and initial samples followed. The client’s feedback then defined the next stage of fragrance development.
1.
Brief and range concept
The starting point was the three care directions identified by the client. We developed the product concepts and presented them during a meeting. The client responded positively to the proposal.

2.
Preliminary ingredient lists and initial samples
Preliminary ingredient lists and a commercial proposal were prepared for the planned products. The initial samples were developed in Canexpol Group’s laboratory. They were then sent to the client for evaluation.

3.
Fragrance refinement and new samples
The client provided feedback on the fragrance of the initial samples. The process of selecting new fragrance compositions then began. At the stage described here, the laboratory was preparing the next sample iterations.

Result to Date
The client received the product concepts, commercial proposal and initial samples. Feedback from the evaluation defined the direction of the next stage of fragrance development.
For Retailers Developing Hair Care Ranges
When several products are being developed at once, the role of each one should be clearly defined. Samples show whether the proposed products meet the brand’s expectations. Feedback on fragrance and texture needs to identify exactly what should be improved. The schedule should therefore allow time to prepare and assess further iterations.
