Why does the size of the first production batch matter?
In practice, the first production batch is not only a test but also a real market entry. Volumes that are too small often do not allow for a reliable assessment of demand and may quickly lead to stock shortages if sales perform well.
Example: A very small first batch often results in a rapid “sold out” situation, after which the brand may be out of stock for weeks. From a business perspective, this is not true demand validation, but rather a missed opportunity to properly assess it.
Therefore, in most projects we recommend a first batch of at least 2 500 units, which allows for meaningful sales testing, maintaining product availability, and collecting reliable market data.
